This channel was formerly known as Garden Spot Acres. While I had hundreds of Amish themed videos under that channel name I thought it was time for the channel name to reflect what the bulk of my content has been.

Go big reds! And even the small patches of the singing blackbirds and the steady robin.
Farmers grow crops where they can make the money needed to keep on keeping on. Milkweed will not pay the bills.
This is where I live, and its true. But, I didn't finish viewing the movie because the music was wrong and I'd rather see more of the area and less random fields being plowed.
I'm surprised the Amish grow "Devil Weed?"
Wonderful. Praise God for the harvest.
Good video! Had to laugh at the end, where they had to run after the team of horses. I bet they were saying "We're done for the day! Let's go HOME!" lol
The horses sure were ready to get to the barn!
HORSE PULLING BALER WITH INTERNAL COMBUST8ON ENGINE ! HMMMMMMM ! WHY NOT PULL IT WITH INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE ????????
The internal combustion engine never has been much of an issue. It’s the tradition of using horses in the field that is held onto. What looks paradoxical to outsiders makes more sense when one knows why certain things are done.
Here is a comment from a former farmer in Saskatchewan. My father had horses but I never had work horses. Just a question about the way you hitch your horses, especially the five-horse hitch; is it not possible to hitch the two inner horses (in a four horse team or maybe even a 5) farther apart from the tongue? I guess you guys know your stuff and if that worked you would certainly be doing it. There is always one poor horse shuffling through the straw or the hay and it sure seems to be working harder than the others as it is always pushing at the straw or hay as it walks along. I also wonder if you rotate your horses, let's say after an hour, re-hitch the two outer horses to the inside and so on to give them all a bit of a rest while still working. Anyway, sure delightful seeing those beautiful horses in the field. Marcel from Saskatchewan. :)
Too bad it causes cancer.
So does alcohol. People choose to do lots of risky things in their lives.
Such beautiful horses! Hard work, rarely seen! ❤
Where can I get these exact hinges? I can't find them on Amazon?
Search National Hardware gate strap hinges.
So help me understand this, they are using heavy machinery and a tractor and the "amish" part is that he used horses to pull the thing instead of another tractor? Why not another tractor pulling the spreader?
Horses pulling gas powered machines.?
And yes we are flooded with Amish here for many years. I like them, they are good people for the most part but the more the years pass the green back has become something they lust after
I live in a family of farmers that farmed for 200 years in upstae and I can tell you they and nearly every farmer would tell a different story as to why the once thriving dairy farms here are gone or gone corporate. You can draw your own conclusions.
Now, I would say that's a fairly big hayfield. What is considered a 'small dairy farm' would have been a large one formerly when one looks at the size of the field, as it is not the only one that belongs to this farm. Our perception of what's small or large has been distorted over time. I grew up in a time when 15 dairy cows with the resulting income were enough to sustain a farm family. For people not familiar with the implements, the mowing is done with a so-called hay bine behind a motorized forecart and a trailer motor with mounted motor behind a forecart. In both cases the horses have to pull the implement, but the mowing is done with a motor which makes it easier on the horses.
That is a 100 year roof!! Excellent. 😊
Spear point is called a tobacco spike
Farmers around here use mexicans workers...and boy are they fast...
JUST WOW AND YES IMAGINE IF WE ALL WERE LIKE THIS!!!
The work is done with such precision that it can be appreciated from Heaven above. 😅
Hay. Let's go mow. Wonderful sharing
Nice video the wheat had fell down some
Great video👍
Which ones are in Jefferson/St.Lawrence counties? I thought Swartzentrubers?
@@MrPunkinhed81 , Swartzentrubers of one group or another. In Pulaski they are Mose Miller Swartzentrubers according to the Amish America site. The Swartzentrubers tend to have internal disputes periodically and split off. I used to be friends and did business with an Amish family in Pulaski. The young men in the family couldn’t explain what group they were nor really explain how and why they got to Pulaski. I’ve found many Amish in these smaller settlements not really fully able to explain their origins. It’s not difficult for Lancaster Amish because they tend not to have the periodic divisions. What may be known 10 years ago and written as fact may no longer be true about some of the smaller splinter groups today.
@LancoAmish I was under impression some of them in ny were break aways. The communities seem to be very small. They are kinda on their own compared to the ones in pa
@@MrPunkinhed81 , they mostly were breakaways at one time or another. The Swartzentrubers have split a number of times. I’m not sure which church districts up there fellowship with one another now. As a couple of ex Swartzentruber Amish stated on their UA-cam Channel they split in a race to be the lowest of the low. The poorest, the least advanced, the plainest…
@@LancoAmish yep. That I noticed. Very poor n plain at the bottom.
Great video!
Excellent! Strong tip is the best!
Using your techniques, in one week my son and I replaced the ancient, creaking overhead doors on two cockeyed suburban NJ garages that hadn't seen a car in decades. My son used ceder for his doors. They look fantastic. Bottomless thanks!
Stellar video. You're an excellent teacher.
Beautiful!
SLIGHT OVERHANG ON SOME?

I have driven for the Amish community for a number of years. It is amazing to see the idiosyncrasies of the different communities/ types of sects
Good to know what Amish Settlement is in Upstate New York. Although I didn't get the whole picture, it's enough to learn something unique about them. Thanks for the video!
There is a large Amish community here where I live. No, this vid did not do it justice.
Poor taste of background music for this
@@larryhurley7576 , I’m always open to suggestions. What music would be in better taste?
Why torture innocent animals? While you have tractors
Why do you think a working horse, one that has been bred for centuries to work, is being tortured for what they love to do. Do you have any experience working with horses or even have been around working horses? Draft horses and mules get excited as they are readied to go to work.
Just to add.........the Amish moved into NYS 30+ years ago, buying old farm steads that the corporate farms missed or didn't want with small acres, some came and some left, but as the state regulations and "rules" get worst, more will be leaving. Selling their land in rich PA forced them to NY, which had many closed down small farm steads, If the state would have passed the legislation on wood fires, and outdoor wood furnaces, which it didn't, the 'off the grid' people couldn't heat their homes. I know of one family that moved out because of the state interfering with their production process.
HORRIBLE MUSIC!
Yeah the using you use is distracting
I visited Bird in Hand last year whilst on holiday from the U.K. I will always remember this place with great fondness for how welcoming the people there were.
👍
Madison county New york has a growing Amish population , love the glazed donuts and there hard work keeping there small farms alive
They may have been obscure but I guess not so much anymore.
There’s no chance that the area would ever be a “tourist” destination. No worries.
